Secondhand Trampolines for sale.

Looking for a cheap or free trampoline for the kids?

Often you can find a good quality secondhand trampoline up for sale at a great price or even free to a good home, but this may not be as lucky as it first seems.

There can be a few pitfalls to buying a secondhand trampoline, although you aren’t likely to be too out of pocket for the trampoline; the inconvenience and the hassle to source suitable parts or worse dispose of the trampoline; which can be easily avoided by some of the pointers below.

Not to mention avoiding the disappointment on the kid's faces!

Where to look for a secondhand trampoline?

  • Gumtree,
  • eBay,
  • Your local area; buy, swap and sell on Facebook.
  • Put up a wanted ad in the local community notice board
  • Friends may even offer one if their kids have outgrown it or they are moving house
  • or you will find one while driving your local neighbourhood

What to look out for...

Be slow to say yes to a secondhand trampoline; here is why and what to look out for.

  • Round trampolines 6ft, 9ft, 11ft, and 13ft are the hardest to find parts for. These sizes are mainly made by department stores who don’t support consumers with spare parts.
  • Rectangle trampoline mats for older trampolines can be hard to source and generally, pads and nets are difficult for many sizes too.

Frame

  • Is it rust free? Check for rust at the welded joints in particular, and under the leg horizontal pieces, that sit on the ground.
  • Then check the spring holes in the frame.
  • Are the spring holes worn down or cutting through the frame? If so this will likely mean the trampoline is made of very thin steel. If you are getting it for little kids this shouldn’t be a big issue but if the trampoline is intended for older kids, then with the extra weight the springs may just continue to tear on through the steel.
  • Are any of the frame pieces missing? If so then be sure the original supplier will supply the missing frame piece or you have access to a fabricator who will be able to replicate a part for you. Some parts are easy to be replicated.
  • Don’t rely on a trampoline supplier having a frame part for you just because they sell trampolines, as each trampoline manufacturer makes to slightly different dimensions, purchasing metal frame parts can be quite difficult.

Jumping Mat

  • Firstly does it have a mat?
  • A trampoline mat is the hardest part to match to a trampoline if the original suppliers where the trampoline was purchased don’t sell spare parts or are no longer in business.
  • Enquire if the owners have bought a mat for the trampoline and if they have; ask where from. Check if the product is still available with the supplier before purchasing the trampoline or taking it home.
  • Ask specifically; if the trampoline doesn’t have a mat, have the owners have tried to get one? Often people will sell a trampoline without a mat due to it tearing from age, wear and tear, weather damage etc Often people try to find a new mat then discover they can ‘t get one and choose to on-sell it or give the trampoline away so someone else has to dispose of it.
  • To understand a bit more about mats read here.
  • If the frame and mat are in good order then you are off to a good start.

Nets / Safety Net Enclosures

  • If there is a net again check the condition, it might be all good at worst you might find the clamps a bit rusty and will need some new lock nuts or similar to secure properly once moved.
  • If there isn’t a net with the trampoline you will need to look into if you can get a net to suit, check first about getting the right net. It might be that you will find a net to fit but you will also need to buy all new poles clamps etc.
  • To be equipped to ask suppliers about nets, take a photo of the trampoline and compare the poles and quantity of poles to what is on a suppliers website.
  • Old style rectangle trampolines were sold without netting fitted. Generally, they have their legs running parallel under the trampoline. To be able to fit netting you need to have 2 legs on the long side and 2 on the short side. (legs diagonal across the corner can have nets)
  • The legs need to run perpendicular to the frame and not have any angle at all.
  • If angled legs or only 2 sets then you won’t be able to fit a net to this style without some serious retrofitting, involving welding etc

Padding / Spring Cover

  • The spring cover padding is the most forgiving of trampoline parts and generally, the parts can be sourced in a vast range of price points base on quality.
  • A round trampoline generic size in feet will fit your matching nominal trampoline size. There can be exceptions of some brands having holes for the net poles to go through so do check the details before purchasing.

What next?

  • With all this information you are forewarned and well informed to make a decision if a secondhand trampoline is right for your family. If it is in good working order please do read the article below.
  • Before disassembling a trampoline read this article on moving house with a trampoline as the same principals apply when buying a secondhand trampoline.
  • Department stores sell trampolines very cheaply, cheaper than if you need to buy 2 major parts, mat and pads for example but don’t expect a long life or parts to be available to replace easily
  • A good trampoline from a good supplier, you will be able to source parts from the supplier cheaper than buying a new trampoline.
  • If you realise you will need to spend some money on the trampoline and really at the end of the day the frame is the only part that is ok; then weigh up how much you will need to spend. A good thick strong trampoline frame is well worth reviving, you will be able to source parts from the supplier cheaper than buying a new trampoline.
  • A round trampoline however if it needs all the consumables at once; mat, padding, springs and net assembly you are likely best to buy a new trampoline.
  • A trampoline with a quality frame and purchased from a supplier with spare parts will be a trampoline that you will be able to sell in the future with confidence too.
