How to measure a rectangle trampoline mat

How to measure a rectangle trampoline mat.

In order to measure a rectangle trampoline mat, you will need to know a few pointers for confidence that the mat you buy is the correct one.

  • The first thing to know is that rectangle trampoline mat size is calculated by first measuring the mat length and width - but wait there is more
  • Standards sizes can differ quite a lot from one brand to another
  • The most important reason to measure the size of your mat is that when you go looking for a mat you will see that sizes are not really consistent from one brand to another for a nominal size, e.g 8x12ft this is due to brands having different sized frames and spring lengths.

  • To do this have a look at the diagram - measure the mat between where the first and second springs are.
  • Often companies will tell customers to measure the mat through the middle of the long and short sides.
  • This can lead to the wrong size mat being sold, likely one that will be too small as rectangle trampolines when overloaded can tend to bow in the middle of the long side in particular.
  • You can look along the edge of yours and you will know if you have this issue to contend with or not,
  • Spring length - not all nominal size trampolines eg 8x12 ft have the same metric frame size or spring length - very important to check this accurately it will help to know this if you have tried many suppliers with no luck - you will then be able to start to think about buying new springs and mat.
  • Spring quantity - How many springs to you have along the length and width also check if you have any springs going into the corners - these are written as +4 on trampoline websites. eg - 18 x 22 + 4 = 84 total springs
  • Any variations from the required size can cause problems, be very careful when you are doing the math and measuring. Even a small variation – as little as 25 mm – can make the difference between a usable trampoline and one that is not.
  • The connecting style of mat corners plays an important role, as well. You may have any one of basically three styles: webbing, spring, or nothing at all. Being alerted to this will also help make sure you look out to buy the correct mat the first time.

rectangle-trampoline-mat-to-measureWhat to do if you only have a frame and no mat and or springs?

  • If for some reasons you don't have the jumping mat or it has got a ridiculously huge hole in it that there is no way you will get an accurate measurement then
  • Measure the frame - again between the 2 first spring holes on the long and short side of the trampoline but going over the frame to get the outside frame reading.
  • If you have springs then get a measurement of them the full length - hook end to hook end.
  • In this case, you will need to phone the company you think will have a mat for you just based on the spring counts you have for each direction.
  • You will need to call them to confirm what length spring they have with their mat for a particular size you have.
  • You might then need to purchase a full set of new springs.

Measuring a rectangle trampoline is quite easy really. Just follow the above advice and you will have your measurements in no time.
