Some fun ways for you to recycle your old trampoline

Is it time for your family to get a new trampoline, and you are just not sure what to do with your old one?

We often find ourselves on this topic with customers before they purchase and upgrade their trampoline. We are frequently asked if we remove old trampolines or sell secondhand trampolines (we don't do either sorry!)

If being a handy person isn't your thing, and you don't know anyone who would like some round steel to create new objects from, then you can recycle the steel by taking the frame springs and net poles to a steel specific bin, often found at businesses in an industrial estate or your local metal recycle depot, or even the local tip.

Mat and Netting

  • The jumping mat can be used as a great weed mat or shade cloth over whatever you may wish to cut it up to cover.
  • If the netting is still OK it can be used to cover young seedlings in the veggie garden or ripening fruit on fruit trees.
  • To make basic soccer goals, the net can be cut into sections with a sleeve either side to slide over 2 net poles staked into the ground and spaced apart the distance of the netting, between the sleeves.

If recycling into another purpose excites you, below are some great ideas to reuse the steel trampoline frame for various applications in the garden.

For the Garden

  • Make a great garden arch for roses, wisteria or grape vines; use half each side and join with steel or wood and cover with a wire mesh.
  • A neat looking round rose arbour you will need to extend the legs to create extra suitable height then mesh between every second leg opening.
  • The ideal framework for a greenhouse - use half the frame as ends you will need extra steel to finish it with supports in between and some plastic or shade cover material.
  • Simply be creative and cut, weld, bolt and turn into some fancy art.
  • Why not create a couple of arches and cover with tin and fill with firewood?

For the kids

  • Soccer re-bounder - either use the existing mat or cover with a rope mesh, musical wind chime, or xylophone. Keep the frame upright and tie a rope across the frame like a cobweb and you will then have a great rope climbing frame.
  • For the pets -nice safe enclosures can be made for the family pets. cover with a mesh around the legs and top for keeping in the rabbits, this can also make a nice chicken or dog run.

For family fun -

  • Movie screen - a rectangle trampoline will lend itself a bit better to this task than a round one.
  • Sun shelter - elevate the legs and with the trampoline mat in place as shade cloth, happily place seats under for cosy dining location or use it to cover the kid's sandpit play space.
  • To find images and links on how to make these items a reality google "Recycle Trampoline" and click on images or do the same on Pinterest. Some people are quite creative!!
