How to repair a trampoline after wind damage

| 4 minutes read | Written by Julie

My trampoline blew away... How to fix my trampoline?

Unfortunately, trampolines can suffer great damage due to strong winds, especially if they are not properly anchored and secured. The larger the mat surface, the more likely it is for the trampoline to become airborne, fly around in your yard and hit walls, trees and fences. This can cause different types of damage, but most of them are repairable and all you need is some spare trampoline parts. Along with suggestions and advice on repairs, we also suggest either purchasing a trampoline wind anchor kit or viewing our article "How to secure your trampoline for high wind" so that this situation will not happen to your trampoline in the future.

Tips to replace a trampoline mat

  • The mat is the easiest part of your trampoline to suffer damage from the wind as it can get torn by sharp objects like tree branches and rocks. The safest option is to replace a mat and not try to fix it if you notice any damage.
  • A torn mat loses its strength from nicks and cuts and might collapse when you least expect it.
  • Before buying a new mat, make sure to take accurate measurements. This is because models from different companies that are marked with the same dimensions might still be slightly different.
  • We have a trampoline mat calculator to make the selection process a lot easier for you if you have a round trampoline.

The frame

Carefully inspect the frame for damage to welds or bends at joints. If the frame of your trampoline bends it will potentially lose its load-bearing ability and increases the risk of a collapse. What you can do is take the photos for the company you purchased from, to see if they have spare parts available, this is possibly the biggest show stopper.

The net poles

  • There is a high probability that some of these will be bent and need replacing.
  • The net is another part of the trampoline that might get torn during strong winds, but it is easy to replace. Just check before ordering that the poles are of the same diameter and height as yours.
  • Order new clamps as well if required. Be sure the netting sleeves/pole securing points matches to your pole quantity.
  • The net will fit the same in most cases - either inside or outside the padding.
  • Check photos of our trampolines to match and cross-check - send photos of your trampoline to us if you would like confirmation of a match.

Springs

  • It is rare that springs are lost in a storm but it can happen. To ensure you are buying springs to match your trampoline, measure a spring off the trampoline when it isn't under tension from the mat. Measure the spring in millimetres and order the same size within only a 3mm variance.

Trampoline ladders

  • Should your ladder become bent during a storm buying a new one is easy.
  • Measure the height of your trampoline frame.
  • Then order a ladder that is 10-15cm longer than the height of the frame.

Replacing trampoline padding

  • The padding is rarely damaged to the point of needing replacing as a direct result of a storm.
  • However, replacement trampoline padding is very easy to buy online. All you need to do is measure your trampoline frame diameter and then purchase the same nominal size.

Just make sure to carefully inspect your trampoline after strong winds and do not use it or allow anyone else to use it before the repairs are complete. Be sure to invest a little time and money once your trampoline is repaired by installing a trampoline wind anchor kit to reduce the likelihood of this damage reoccurring.
