Choosing the right size trampoline online
Use our guide with your family in mind
One question asked before every family decides on a trampoline: "What size trampoline is right for our family, budget and our backyard?"
Varying sized and shaped trampolines are available for different areas, family size, ages, and weight. Each trampoline is the best trampoline for someone but which one is right for you?
Boys and Girls
- View our guide of who is happiest with each of the sizes
- As general observation over time in this industry, we have observed boys tend to prefer round trampolines when younger and then the largest 2 rectangles as older teenagers.
- Girls have a greater tendency to prefer a rectangle over a round trampoline.
- Boys tend to play all over the place, whereas girls like to do more in the way of dance and gymnastics routines, so for them, having a corner is important
- Girls are typically lighter and have less leg muscle strength than boys and for this reason, rectangle trampolines are easier for them to get a higher and better bounce.
- If you are looking to buy a kids trampoline but don’t have a large area, then an 8 or 10 ft trampoline is probably the best choice for you.
- These smaller trampolines are perfect for a small backyard/courtyard or families with smaller children.
- Remember though you should only ever have one child on an 8 ft or 10 ft trampoline at a time.
- In such a small space it is probably that they will jump into each another and could hurt each other.
- The 8 ft trampoline is also lower to the ground, so weight is delimited by the frame height. Be sure to check that before you make the final decision.
- If you have the room and can afford to go with a 12 ft over an 8 ft or 10 ft then do this. A 12 ft is a better long term choice.
- An 8 ft trampoline is better than no trampoline. Especially if you only have a small yard for little people to burn up their energy.
- Perfect for most families with an average backyard and two kids
- They don't take up too much space but you can safely have larger children or adults bouncing on them without too many dramas.
- Young kids learning flips etc are happy on this size on their own but there is still room for a couple of friends as well 2 small kids can be on it together or older kids one at a time still
- A very popular trampoline - a winner across the ages
- Nice bounce for kids and adults
- These bigger trampolines, “Entertainers” as we call them are the social, family trampoline of trampolines.
- These are the trampolines to get if you have the surplus yard area.
- They are by sheer size safer, more fun and you can fit more than one child/person on at a time
- If you have a larger family or your kids are all 10 and up; then this is potentially the trampoline for you
- Great value too if your kids are sociable and have friends over regularly as a trampoline will entertain them beautifully for hours.
- Great size for a good game of trampoline basketball, or soccer too
- Not ideal for lighter kids approx 8 yo on their own but if on with siblings and friends they will get a nice bounce.
- In more recent times we found with our display allowing kids to test the trampolines we far outsold 14ft trampolines compared to the 15ft so have now ceased selling 15ft although we do still stock all the 15tft trampoline spare parts for past customers.
Round Trampolines give everyone a fairly consistent bounce experience without the big double bounce. Older and younger kids can all play in relative safety on these bigger trampolines
- A very nice small rectangle trampoline, ideal to pop in between the cubby house and swing set or garden shed
- Nice and compact and similar application as to the round 8 or 10 ft trampoline
- Kids around the age of 9 starts find it too small to be ideal
- 1 child at a time rule should apply
- Can be built into the ground easily
- Great trampoline with very good bounce and space for kids up to 12/13 years of age
- Adults can still happily jump and enjoy this trampoline - see note below about flips.
- If they are into Gymnastics this is the most common trampoline for juniors using to practice their routine
- When rounding out flips if 12/13 years old, doing an extended body round out they are more likely to land on the pads, not the mat which isn't great for ankles or the life of the pads
- If neat tight tucks and flips and bouncing is all they do then this trampoline is a lovely one all the way to adulthood
- A better bounce is common on a rectangle trampoline compared to say a 12 ft round trampoline due to one side being shorter in length
- Is ideal to be tucked into a corner or as an in-ground trampoline
- Often referred to as a standard rectangle trampoline
- Due to the popularity of this trampoline with kids that do gymnastics; we call it our gymnastics trampoline
- We had this trampoline designed and made for the tween/early teens that do gymnastics. We observed this tween/teen group found 8x12 ft rectangle trampoline a little too short to round out their flips and therefore landing on the pads instead of the trampoline mat
- The extra 2 foot makes a significant difference without compromising on the bounce
- This trampoline has room for 2 kids at a time through their teens
- 9x14 ft trampoline is a much stronger design than the other 2 smaller rectangle trampolines having a thicker frame tubing and pads
- If height is what your gymnastic kids are after this one will give them that with a very nice amount of space
- Enjoyable bounce for adults
- We now have an Olympic Style professional gymnastics trampoline with a woven mat as effective as a 2 string trampoline mat.
- You do need a big back yard for this one and really not suitable for toddlers unless you are really aware that they will not get a good bounce out of this until they are 8/9 years old; even then it's better suited to older kids
- If you are comparing to a true gymnastics trampoline that has a 2 string woven mat then this trampoline isn’t as bouncy
- Ideal for kids around 50 kg who are good at gymnastics and willing to compromise a bit of height for more space (unless purchased with the high bounce mat option)
- Double and triple somersaults can be achieved by heavier teens 14 yo+
- We are seeing a surge in teen boys actively promoting their love of this trampoline for training in parkour and free running.
- Excellent trampoline for general family use and self-invented ball games
- A heavy duty frame makes this a long term back yard investment
- This trampoline is getting close to being a square and is a great size to make a big statement
- This is the trampoline of choice of cheerleading kids
- Ideal for tumbling and practising techniques that are ultimate to be used directly on the floor once they are confident
- We had 4 teenagers (3 boys) and this was the trampoline we had taken over our backyard
- It was a well-used trampoline even though the kids were aged 15 to 19+ (often the ages when parents think kid won't use a trampoline any more)
- It is a great space for soccer, and wrestling and for a good old game of jumping tag
- It is the neighbourhood magnet as well so be prepared to have the extras jumping over the fence to have a bounce too
- Well over 200 kg this trampoline is not moved to mow under – drop the mower handles and under you go
- Again a quality thick and robust frame for long term enjoyment
- A high bounce option is now available with springs that are Australian made and galvanised this option we recommend for everyone other than Cheer girls who really don't want much bounce or height but crave it for the huge space.
Be sure to instill trampoline safety considerations as a priority into your kids regardless of size trampoline you decide to purchase, making sure that you teach your kids how to play safely on a trampoline and this will reduce the chance of injuries and the severity.
