Why Trampoline Web and Warehouse are sponsoring Cystic Fibrosis with B2B

Web and Warehouse were recently asked to be a key sponsor of Cystic Fibrosis QLD, by supplying GeeTramp trampolines for Bounce to Breathe (B2B) it’s a new, in school, trampoline education and fundraising program for Brisbane school-aged kids.

B2B takes “GeeTramp” trampolines into schools for an agreed period to educate participating kids with safety awareness on how to jump, trick and to flip on trampolines.

B2B is the initiative of Roz Fenton who was aware of the trampoline flipping, parkour craze being all the go for young kids. It didn’t take long for creative Roz to be motivated and inspired through her work as a fundraising marketing person for Cystic Fibrosis to see the link between her work for Cystic Fibrosis and the need of many families wanting accessible tuition for their kids on how to bounce and use a trampoline safely while exploring their limits.

Roz laid out a plan for creating an in-school program and has called it “Bounce 2 Breathe” #B2B. The launch was in May 2018 and has been well received and with the potential to be taken up nationally.

cystic-fibrosis-trampolines-b2bHow do trampolines relate to Cystic Fibrosis?

Kids with Cystic Fibrosis are encouraged to have a trampoline as part of the ongoing maintenance of their lungs. Cystic Fibrosis is a build-up of mucus around the lungs and other organs. Regularly jumping on a trampoline helps to dislodge the mucus and works in conjunction with the many pills these kids have to take to maintain some sort of normalcy, all too often spending months at a time in the hospital for serious infections and even weeks for just a simple bout of the flu.

How does the B2B fundraiser actually work?

  • A school is nominated by interested, teachers, parents or kids to be a part of the program.
  • Bounce 2 Breathe co-ordinator Roz communicates with the school through the physical education department of that school.
  • If the school is happy for Cystic fibrosis to arrange everything for the event, a date is booked in.
  • Cystic fibrosis take care of the promotion within the school, the collecting of funds for the fundraiser through online individual  website access,
  • They arrange the team to come in to assemble and disassemble the trampolines
  • Fully supervise the kids and teach them trampoline safety and awareness of tricks.

Who will be teaching the kids how to use a trampoline safely?

  • For the tuition side, B2B is teaming up with a well-known Brisbane based non-profit circus arts training school, “Flipside Circus”.
  • Their team take the trampolines into the schools, set them up, conduct the trampoline classes and supervise all trampoline jumping, then at the end of the schools arranged conclusion of the fundraiser they will pack up the trampolines and transport hem back to storage,

What are the benefits of the B2B program?

  • Trampolines arrive in the thousands every year to Aussie backyards and every year there are too many kids who are injured in preventable ways.
  • Giving kids a basic education and safety awareness, while opening up a formal conversation in an environment with their peers, This learning environment is highly valuable and we all know even if parents have tried to tell their kids how to be safe on a trampoline the odds are they haven't taken too much notice.
  • We are relieved there is now a budding program in place for kids being better informed on how to flip and how to know if they are ready to flip. Although it might now only be in Brisbane initially we can see that there is a growing need for it to be adopted nationally.
  • The program will give parents more confidence too. I know many parents just can’t watch while their kids do their thing on the trampoline or casually flipping off the house wall.
  • There will be greater awareness of what Cystic Fibrosis is while raising much-needed funds for kids and adults living with this genetic disease.

Educational opportunity for the kids who we could all think don't need it

  • We know our customers are kids who do Cheerleading, gymnastics, parkour, free running, patrons at trampoline parks, skateboarders, divers, snowboarders, skiers, etc the list of sports using trampolines as training equipment is quite vast so while their main sport isn't trampolining it is where they are spending a lot of their training hours. Many of them not aware of the risks as the trampoline is a "safer environment" than say landing badly on the ground or in the water.
  • We sell trampolines knowing kids are going to be on there with other users, doing flips and tricks that our labels clearly state shouldn’t be done. Our trampolines meet Australian standards and as a trampoline, they are as safe as they can be however landing badly through poor form and lack of education can lead to some very nasty injuries.

How our family benefited from some basic training

  • When our own kids started getting adventurous with flipping on the trampoline we took them to classes at the local YMCA where they were told; what we were telling them, as parents “to take care, slow down, take your time, don’t do something if you’re not ready or comfortable.”
  • At classes, they were also told the things we didn’t know, how to warm up before trying anything new, where to look when flipping, how to place arms, prepare for take-off and landing, all great lessons and worth every cent.

Why bounce to breathe is the right organization for us to support

  • With Bounce 2 Breathe being such a worthy cause, with the program aimed directly at our active customer demographic, it just makes perfect sense for Web and Warehouse to align our quality GeeTramp brand trampoline products with cystic fibrosis and the professional tuition team of flipside circus.

How to get involved in "Bounce 2 Breathe"

  • The program is running only out of Brisbane during 2018.
  • If you're in the Brisbane or Gold Coast regions ask your school if they are going to run the “bounce 2 Breathe” program with GeeTramp trampolines.
  • Or go online to Bounce2Breathe to register your interest.
  • If you are on Instagram you can contact them through Direct Message - @bounce2breathe Let me know if your school is doing “Bounce to Breathe” as I will attend a few of our follower's schools when time permits.
