Does a trampoline get a better bounce in time?

| 3 minutes read | Written by Julie

Why do trampolines get bouncier for kids over time?

A great question and one that I didn't know the answer to for a while as it wasn't something I had thought about; or even experienced our trampolines long enough to confidently know the answer.

Well, now I do...

How do we know?

The big benefit for us is our large display of 18 trampolines; where the public can jump test as long as they like on any of the trampolines. It is here that we get a lot of feedback about our round/rectangle trampolines and the Vuly Trampolines, including the bounce and comparable differences that; kids and adults feel and notice.

The information we get from discussions and observations is incredibly valuable and meaningful; translating into useful data for us to be able to give very good advice and recommendations to our customers where ever they may live.

When people would ask this question"do your trampolines get bouncier with use and time?

  • I really didn't know the answer and would have to say so.
  • Parents would ask the question of us; as though, they didn't really believe or understand what their kids were saying to them; as they themselves wouldn't have noticed the difference with their home trampoline.

Over time though I have come to realise what kids actually mean by this question.

  • The kids have typically had personal experience on their own or a friend's trampolines.
  • Over time they have been able to achieve a better bounce, greater height, and overall better fun.
  • When choosing a new trampoline "weighing up increased bounce over time" is a part of their considerations in determining which trampoline they want and trying to ensure that the new trampoline too will also get a better bounce over a few years.
  • This I now know can only be determined by their age and size of the child; and if they are likely to get any heavier in the near future.
  • A trampoline bounce is dependant on the weight of the users so younger and lighter kids would notice this more than parents and older teens.

The conclusion is;

  • Only that they are now heavier than when they first got their trampoline and can now achieve a better bounce, their interpretation is that; trampolines get bouncier with age.
  • In reality, kids get heavier with age and can bounce higher, they also get better leg muscles!

Choosing a trampoline is a "Goldilocks" past time to find the "Just Right" trampoline.
