8 Health benefits that a trampoline can provide

Trampolines are often just viewed from the entertainment perspective not as much from the health angle. The health benefits that kids or adults get from jumping on a trampoline is often disguised given that the activity is so engaging and fun; the fact that jumping is exercise, is often not discussed or recognized. Regular jumping on a trampoline definitely comes with some great and lasting health benefits.

1. Improving your cardiac fitness.

Simply jumping on your trampoline can have great paybacks surrounding your cardiac fitness! As we all know, cardio has fantastic health benefits associated with improving quality of life. When considering the long-term effects of increasing your physical activity, there are reductions in the risk of developing health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease. Having a healthy cardiovascular system means that the body can pump oxygen more efficiently throughout the body. By having greater aerobic fitness, it allows your body to replenish fuels quicker, remove fatiguing toxins from muscles and in the long-term, allow you to work out harder and for longer!

Many studies around the globe have determined the positive effects of physical activity for individuals. Regular exercise such as jumping on your trampoline serves several physical as well as psychological benefits! When you or your child complete physical activity, there is a release of hormones to the brain and nervous system. One of these neurotransmitters is known as Endorphins. Endorphins are a type of neurotransmitter in the body which helps to reduce stress and pain. Dopamine is another neurotransmitter which is commonly known to make you feel happier! The release of this “feel good” hormone has been proven to not only make you feel better, but as a result, aids in promoting one’s mental health.

3. Ease on joints in comparison to other sports

Sports including athletics, running, even skipping are all hard on one’s joints. The reverberations of continually landing on hard surfaces can increase the risk of developing diseases such as osteoarthritis later in life. As discussed in the Journal of Physical Therapy Science (2017), “trampoline exercise has been investigated as a means of preventing lower extremity injuries,” in particular, “decreasing the leg stiffness.” Exercises such as trampolining where you are landing on a cushioned or elastic surface are low bearing, meaning there is greater support on joints upon impact.

4. A fun and enjoyable way to improve and maintain healthy body weight.

No one can deny jumping on a trampoline is fun! Not only is jumping on a trampoline a source of entertainment, but it is also an excellent foundation in increasing your physical activity! By finding a fun way to exercise, it is highly likely to increase the time you chose to be physically active! Increasing the amount of time can help maintain or reach a healthy body weight. The obesity epidemic in Australia is a pressing issue, as screen time has increased, everyday exercise is decreasing. Having a trampoline in your backyard not only helps to get the kids off screens such as television or mobile devices, but gets them more active!

5. A safe alternative for parkour and sporting enthusiasts!

When you or your child is starting to test out or try new tricks, they are often pushing themselves, attempting harder and more complex stunts. With the new uproar of tumbling and flipping as a popular sport, trampolines are creating a safer environment for these challenges. Trampolines are aiding these athletes with confidence and awareness as they safely test or perfect various tricks. By exercising within a safe environment, it decreases the risk of potential injury or harm to the individual, therefore allowing them to continue bouncing and striving to succeed; maintaining their physical wellbeing.

6. Enhancing muscular strength and promoting muscle development

In scientific terms, aiding muscular hypertrophy. Muscle growth and development all comes down to the skeletal muscles ability to repair and replace damaged muscle fibers. Within the muscle fibers are myofibrils. Myofibrils increase in thickness during repair after exercising, resulting in muscular growth! The more often you exert force to get a bounce on your trampoline, the more likely you are to increase the opportunities for your muscles to firm and tone! By enhancing your muscular strength, you can jump higher, and improve your anaerobic power.

7. Bouncing suitable for all ages

Trampolines and those who can jump on them are universal. Catering for the needs of individuals, families, and athletes is what we at Web and Warehouse strive to achieve. A common stereotype towards trampolines is that they are just for kids, when in fact they are for all ages! With a team aging from 17 to 50 years old, and 10 years of experience, we can confidently say that there is a trampoline for everyone! Trampolines are a great way to get fit! With all the great physical and psychological benefits listed, why would you not give it a go! Trampolines with greater space such as a 9x14ft or 10x17ft are great for not only for younger kids, but also adults! With plenty of space to jump around, as well as a higher weight rating (based on Australian Standards) these are just an example of trampolines available which cater for all ages!

8. Increasing your immunity

Scientifically known as the lymphatic system, it is responsible for detoxifying and cleansing the body of infections. The lymphatic system completes this cleansing by using conscious movement as a pump to stimulate the valves to open and close at a more effective rate. The lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, are what fights the infections and diseases. Engaging in whole body exercise, such as trampolining, means you are more likely to increase this pumping system, which means more lymphocytes are circulated throughout the body. This has the ability to enhance your overall immunity, meaning you are less likely to get sick!
