Outside Trampoline Netting

What is Outside Trampoline Netting? Benefits of keeping it.

It has only been the last 25 or so years that trampolines have had netting on them at all. Before then trampolines didn't have safety nets.

The first design of nets sat on the outside of the net frame with padding at the front inside the trampoline.

The design change catalyst

  • However as is typical with progress, safety became a bigger focus even though pads and nets were on the trampoline.
  • There were enough recorded incidents of kids getting hair or fingers and feet caught in springs - which were spaced a lot further apart than they are now.
  • To avoid this happening and with the arrival of non-mandatory Australian standard guidelines for manufacturers to work to.
  • With this awareness, about 6 years ago, a big move by department stores initially was to have inside nets so kids couldn't get caught in the springs. It was also cheaper to produce.

  • Web and Warehouse as business owners and importers, we are fortunate not only for keeping our customers children safe using our products but also for overseeing the manufacturing of products that will give better value for money by being made of quality materials that will last better in our intense weather conditions of hot or cold and strong UV.
  • Web and Warehouse made the decision to keep with an outside net on our trampolines even though the trend of most companies was to go with inside nets.
  • We saw that there were benefits to keep the netting positioned as it was but to change the padding.
  • The new inside net design took away 2ft of internal playspace which kids we saw - mainly teenagers, complained about the changes and were happy to see we had kept with the netting on the outside but had also addressed the spring issue.
  • For example, a 12ft trampoline now feels like a 10ft trampoline which is a lot of space for arms and legs to extend into.
  • A trampoline is sold with the belief and intention that there will be only one user at a time, however, there is the reality.
  • Feedback from our own kids and the kids that came to our display constantly complained about how bad the bounce was on a trampoline with the net on the inside. The internal playspace was reduced and when there were multiple users on the trampoline then the bounce was bad because the kids won't get off the trampoline when turn-taking they stay on having nowhere to sit or stand other than on the mat.
  • This reduces the bounce greatly for the user.
  • With pads still on the inside of the trampoline kids could use the extra space and have a near solo user experience on the trampoline if the others stood on the pads out of the way.

The benefits of changing the pads

  • Our changes to safety padding for trampolines with inside nets are a world first and do make the trampoline much safer with a netting sewn in at the front of the pads and attached to the trampoline mat hooks with a buttonhole like an attachment at the time of assembly.
  • This layer of netting prevents little fingers and toes having access to the springs, stops the pads bouncing up or blowing up so that users with long hair won’t get any wayward stands or ponytails caught in the springs either.
  • Also in the event of a flying spring, it will have no means to be able to have contact with a user.
  • Our netting enclosure is of high-grade material with superior nylon zips, with UV stabilized side tabs, and securely sewn in zip to prevent zip running off the teeth at the top.
  • The closely spaced clip ended elastics to secure the net in place under the trampoline.
  • Our PVC sleeves fully cover the net pole and foam keeping it all strong and together.

All in all our trampolines may look like many other trampolines but in reality, they are so much more and do last longer as a result of all the considered the improvements.
