Best Trampolines for small backyard and garden space.

With so many new housing estates popping up across Australia with an evergrowing trend of the house occupying a larger percentage of the land size; the result is, leaving families with small backyards and garden space than ever before. The request for small trampolines is a very common question from families with these small gardens who still want and need a trampoline for their kids.

Renting or buying, the trend is the same; smaller backyards, even the older properties with large back gardens are often being subdivided to two small backyards per older block; so the demand is growing and here to stay it seems.

small-yard-garden-trampolineWhat isn’t changing is the need for kids to still have a safe place to play at home. If anything it is now more important for kids to have a safe place at home as kids can’t be left to play in the streets as they once did or to take themselves to the park until they are much older.

As parents, we can’t spend anywhere enough time at the park to appease kids. they always want more time to play than we have.

So trampolines are a great place to use up energy. If you think about even the smallest piece of grassed area kids just don’t play much in that space or use up the energy they have in reserve until a trampoline is put there. I grew up on 65 acres with, cubby house, playground, motorbikes, and paddock cars but spent a large portion of my free time on my trampoline with my siblings.

How can we help you know what size will fit your space

  • First, measure the space you have in both metric and feet; if your tape measure allows.
  • Consider your house eves/ guttering and any garden bed edges.
  • Could the garden bed be altered? We are aware a lot of people are deciding to

Inside net or outside net?

When seeking a trampoline there are two net styles to consider.

  1. A net that sits inside the padding area right at the edge of the mat then you do not need to worry about extra space around the trampoline. the size of the trampoline will be all the footprint of the yard that the trampoline will require
  2. A trampoline that has a net sitting at the outside edge of the frame and padding, for this style you need to allow at least walking space around the trampoline. This is to give room for when the kids push against the netting to ensure that they don't collide with the house or fences etc.

Round or rectangle?.

  • 8ft round 2438mm  will suit a small child but if you are considering allowing 2 kids on at a time this is not a trampoline to relax while the kids are on together. Especially nervous of families allowing 2 kids on an 8ft with an inside net which really reduces the play space.
  • 10ft round 3050mm – If you have space for this then you are doing a lot better than many families available space. A 10ft is still good for 2 kids – you will be monitoring their play and may request one at a time from around the age of 8-9.

  • 7x10ft Rectangle 2134 x 3048mm - We have seen a growing trend in 7x10ft rectangle trampolines.
  • They offer more space than an 8 ft round trampoline and are a better option for kids than the 8ft round.
  • 7x10ft has a better bounce and will suit kids to much older age and skill set than on the 8ft.
  • Here is a video of kids on the 7x10ft. they did all agree that at any age if parents only have space or budget for the 7x10ft then they would prefer a trampoline to no trampoline.

  • 8x12ft trampoline 2438 x 3658 – this is the last trampoline that we will cover here under the heading of "small trampoline" for small backyards. If you have the means both space and budget to accommodate an 8x12ft you won’t regret it. Certainly, the kids will be using it actively years longer than the other sizes referenced – Teens are very happy on this trampoline. Also, safer if you are allowing multi-user play experiences. Kids can accomplish better skills in this size too.

Choosing between a Trampoline or a swing or basketball ring?

  • Trampolines have become a multifunctional space now which really does suit the small backyard.
  • Trampolines are ideal for the obvious jumping on, add some balls, a basketball ring, a volleyball net, and more games and time on the trampoline.
  • On the warmer days, there is the new water sprayers and misters to add to it as well. Chalk can be fun to include for either just drawing on, or using to play memory or number games that are made up as the kids play and grow.
  • Some brands offer a tent or shade covers which add shelter and a place to play cubby houses during the day or a fun place to sleep out with friends.
  • Decks like skateboards are fun and the trampoline is safer to land on than concrete when starting out
  • Playing under the trampoline can be fun too for little kids, or put netting across the legs and there is a soccer goal on the outside of the trampoline too.

We hope that with this list you are able to conclude what will be the better option for your family and small yard. If you do have further questions please feel free to call us on 03 52921100 or use the chat box option at the bottom of the screen to leave us a message or email
