Safe age recommendation for trampolines - Toddlers

| 2 minutes read | Written by Julie

Why trampolines have a user starting age of 6 years old

  • Trampolines are promoted for toddlers and yet on the safety label, it says recommended only for children over the age of 6.
  • This is somewhat confusing for people looking for a trampoline suitable for toddlers as 6-year-olds have moved on from the toddler stage well and truly.

Parents who are worried about this high age for children starting to use a trampoline are also in the group of parents who are looking for a trampoline to allow their climbing, jumping, adventurous toddler somewhere safe to use up their boundless energy. Most often that energy is being used by bouncing on the sofa, beds and anywhere else that can be deemed unsafe. Often ending in a bump or worse from the coffee table.

To parents with concerns of the warning label recommendation, I say the safety label is there to protect both the child and the manufacturer but as a parent, I see a trampoline as a safer option than bouncing on the bed or sofa.

At the end of the day, we can only guide you with information to make the decisions that you're comfortable with for yourself and your family.

  • The trampoline age recommendation isn’t there only to protect the manufacturer from liability.
  • It is mostly to ensure the recommendation that supervision is seriously noted and followed while children of all ages are on the trampoline.
  • The less supervision around a trampoline the greater the number of injuries that are documented to be of all ages.
  • Toddlers, while still getting their feet, are more prone to injury on a trampoline when multiple children are on together.
  • Stick to the one at a time rule, watch and be close by for your toddler while they are on the trampoline at all times.
