10 Signs You Should Recycle Your Trampoline

We might be in the game of selling trampolines for our living, but we are with you in a world of commercialism where we are frustrated by the lack of parts to fix simple things. That’s why we strive to save perfectly good trampoline frames, mats and nets from early retirement to landfill.

No matter how old your trampoline is, be it a ripe 30 year old or a 1 year old cheapy, one day they all come up to the same question – should it be repaired or recycled? We take a look at the signs that suggest it will need to be recycled!

weather-damaged-trampoline1 – Wild Weather

Due to the vast range of weather that sweeps through our diverse country, often parts go awry due to strong winds and tropical storms. Or perhaps, the blaring heat could cause hot embers to fly.  Damage to frame pieces is typical of storm damage from the trampoline either having trees land on it or being blown away. Frame peices are difficult to match across brands. So, if you notice the weather has led to some wear and tear in this way it may be time to recycle. Learn from the situation and be sure to tie the trampoline down next time.

2 – Lacking Compatible Parts

There may come a time where you need to replace certain parts but find that the importer no longer stocks the relevant spares. It’s annoying when this occurs, but simply recycle what’s broken and treat yourself to a new set. Making sure that you purchase from a supplier who does have spare parts available

3 – Past Its Best

We all have our day in the sun but sometimes, we have to accept when something is non-operational. It may just simply be old and rusted through and ready to be recycled for a new lease of life as something else.

4 – Too Expensive to Repair

Revival may be possible, but it will potentially come down to cost. Your safety is paramount and spending money on ensuring that everything is fully functional could be a pricey venture. Especially if you have a unique brand and you need to retro fit items or pay additional for alterations. Often just not worth it.

5 – A Whole Can Be Cheaper Than Its Parts

With the above said, often if you need a mat, net and pads all at the same time on an old frame, it can be cheaper to buy an all-new trampoline.

6 – Jostling with the Jumping Mat

If you only need one part, then it may come down to finding the most suitable option. Many companies don’t supply parts for their trampolines and others, of course, go out of business. The most difficult trampoline part to match is a jumping mat. If you are unable to find a mat or a mat and spring combo then you are in trouble. So don't purchase nets or pads until you have a mat sourced.

7 – On Its Last Legs

If you have just got legs that have rusted out and unable to source the leg parts from the original supplier, maybe a place like "metaland" or another local fabricator will make something suitable to retrofit your frame. If not, again you could be in trouble and recycling will be the best option. (Our local tip keeps some trampoline poles and such aside in their recycle shed – yours might too – don’t ask, don’t get)

8 – Unusual Designs that Get Spoilt

Odd sizes and shapes like hexagons should be avoided and department store oval trampolines too, as they are most difficult to find parts for. Unless you only want it for a year or two, but even then if an ember from a fire lands on the mat then it’s irrepairable  We’ve all heard the stories of those that only have a life from Christmas to New Year due to overzealous hand-held sparkler antics or stray fire embers that have landed on the mat.

9- International Mayhem

Imported brands from outside Australia that are sold in sports stores are also a problem as they aren’t supported with parts. So, when there is a breakage it will cost a fortune to ship over appropriate replacements or simply be altogether not an option.

10- Double Check with Us First

We are always worth giving a call before deciding to recycle your trampoline as we may have an easy fix or be able to guide you to a website or repairer that you have not been able to find yourself.
