Trampolines made in Australia VS made in China this will help you decide

Trampoline – Designed in Australia – made in China

"Made in China" – doesn't necessarily mean poor quality anymore – Yes for a long time it did but with more and more western input for design and materials, China has come a long way. This isn't to say if you buy something made in China it won’t break next week. Although what it does depend on is the level of quality that has been worked into the design and materials by the importer.

The weight of “designed in Australia” is to be taken note of on any marketing these days. This generally tells us that measures have been put in place to meet or are working towards Australian standards if applicable to the particular products. It is also a good indicator to tell that the people behind the company know and care about the expectations of their Australian consumers.

Why we don't manufacture in Australia

  • For us, the cost to manufacture domestic affordable trampolines in Australia is out of the question, starting just on price point to the consumer.
  • Customers regularly ask if our trampolines are made in Australia, whilst already starting to haggle at a cheaper price.
  • They quickly realise that no, they wouldn't be prepared to pay double or more for a trampoline.
  • Interestingly or sadly enough, if we were to set up for manufacturing most of the materials to make a trampoline would need to be imported due to how few manufacturers are left in Australia.
  • We make improvements to our trampolines here in Australia. Improvements are made mainly based on customer feedback, our own observations and experiences. From there we send it through to China to then design standards of materials and workmanship requested.
  • Our trampolines are of a high standard and definitely show quality above similar product standards while remaining affordable to the majority of families.

Australian-and-Chinese-businessmenTell me a bit about the factory

  • In the factory where our trampolines come from many brands are made side by side to meet different specifications for different countries. Some are made to be cheap for department stores or poorer countries, others are made for unique upmarket brands.
  • The materials used differ greatly and it isn't hard to see what is good, what is cheap, and what is as good as disposable within a year.
  • Some brands can fit an entire trampoline in one box that is smaller than our smallest of the 3 cartons we use.
  • Our equivalent sized trampolines weigh more than double some of these brands
  • The factory year on year has visibly improved in every area - with primarily safety as a focus, we know first hand how strong focus on safety will improve everything - cleanliness, quality, production, and morale. (Andrew worked at Alcoa and the American CEO Paul O'Neill of the 80s - 90s used safety to change Alcoa)

What about Australian standards?

  • We work to meet the expectations of our customers and the Australian Standards.
  • We are fortunate with the factory we work with as they want us to document and share any problem we may have for them. So we can look at how we can together - as a business and factory, improve and develop our products.
  • Australia has the savviest consumers and also has the tightest standards for trampolines in the world.
  • The factory is astounded at times by our requests for improvements and we are equally astounded at the materials some companies continue to use and don’t have any plans on changing.
  • We focus on quality with family domestic use in mind, along with an idea of balance that also remains affordable for most families. For example, padding material available that would simply double the price of many of our trampolines this is unrealistic to include on a domestic trampoline.

Buying a trampoline from us comes with the assurance that we know our materials and stand by our products.
