How to measure for correct trampoline ladder

A trampoline ladder is important especially for toddlers and preschoolers who cannot access the trampoline easily without support.

Having a ladder with the proper height and number of steps makes getting up and down the trampoline safe. Manufacturers use varying frame heights when constructing their trampolines, so not all 12 ft trampolines are the same height.  
Some manufacturers will use the one height for all their trampolines, others will use lower heights for smaller trampolines. (These trampolines also often have a lower weight capacity as the mat is lower to the ground)

You will need to take specific measurements in order to find the correct length ladder for you.

1. First, measure the height of your trampoline frame accurately
2. You measure from the top of the frame to the ground in millimeters.

You can also make the calculations yourself.

• Now that you have your frame height in millimeters add 100 mm to that number.
• You can now look for a ladder of that length or up to 50 mm more.
• 900 mm frame + 100 mm = 1000 mm ladder 
• Anything more than 150 mm greater than the height of your trampoline will give too much of an angle the kids will be more likely to lose their footing.
• On the up, if you have to buy something that is a little too long at least you will be able to cut it down a little.

Some extra pointers to keep in mind before buying a trampoline ladder.

• Just keep in mind that if you purchase a ladder that has a length equal to the height of your trampoline, it will be a vertical ladder, not particularly comfortable for children to use.
• A ladder that is too long, on the other hand, will be tilted too much, which again is not optimal.
• And once you find the perfect size, make sure to purchase a trampoline ladder that is easy to install -the hook-on versions are the simplest ones- and is made out of galvanised steel.
• It is important to get galvanised accessories for your trampoline, as it will be outdoors most of the time, exposed to rain and humidity, and you don't want your ladder to rust 
• Remember that without a ladder toddlers will use whatever objects they can find to get on the trampoline.
• They will often put boxes on top of chairs and so on, creating unstable structures that are dangerous to climb. Get a ladder of the correct height the first time and you will solve this issue once and for all!
