4 questions to answer, to know if your trampoline needs to be anchored down

Do you need to tie your trampoline down?

An unrestrained trampoline in high winds can definitely get airborne and travel a substantial distance. This can cause major damage to the trampoline itself or any other property that it makes contact with.

  • If you live in an area that is known to be windy it's recommended you consider securing your trampoline down.
  • The surface area of the jumping mat and the pads offer wind resistance. The net enclosure adds and compounds the wind resistance and ends up acting like a sail.
  • Heavier trampolines do help resist this, however, we have found that it is ultimately no barrier to that extra big storm that can come along. We have had customers report that even the largest unsecured rectangle trampoline has ended up 100's of meters away and these trampolines can be up to around a quarter of a tonne
  • At one extreme nothing in a backyard survives a cyclone and at the other, everything is OK as there is no wind at all. Somewhere in between these extremes, your trampoline will fly away.
  • A Wind Anchor Kit may not prevent loss or damage in the extreme cases but will definitely raise the wind threshold that your trampoline will stay secure at.
  • Small sheltered backyards in high dense living suburbia are obviously less prone than living in open area's, hilltops, near paddocks or on farms

  1. How light your trampoline is (keep in mind all sizes have a history of blowing away)
  2. How sheltered your yard is. If it is exposed even on one side, precaution is a good thing
  3. How prone your area is to very high winds - Does your outdoor furniture move?
  4. How much risk do you want to take? Are your cars parked outside? What damage could be done to your home or neighbours?

We have 3 different trampoline wind anchor kits to select from:

Medium to High Wind: Vuly Wind Anchor Kit * Note: this is not suited to the Vuly Thunder range or larger rectangle trampolines
High to Very High Wind: 450mm Wind Kit and 600mm wind kits - read product description to decide on which length you will need

Knowing and having the right kit handy in the event of wind could save you a lot of angst in the short time before high winds approach and arrive at your place.
