Why Most Trampolines Fail the Kids' Bounce Test (And How to Choose One That Won't)
Why Most Trampolines Fail the Kids' Bounce Test
Understanding why the right mat and spring combination matters
Choosing the right trampoline for your family involves much more than comparing size, price or brand.
One of the biggest frustrations we hear from parents is that their children quickly become disappointed with the bounce of their new trampoline. It might look impressive, but if it doesn't suit the weight and age of the people using it, the excitement can wear off surprisingly quickly.
It still surprises us how little thought many trampoline manufacturers give to the actual bounce of their trampolines. While most focus heavily on appearance, size and weight ratings, the bounce itself is often overlooked. The result is a trampoline that may look impressive but delivers a disappointing jumping experience, leaving families with a product that simply isn't used to its full potential.
A quality bounce makes a significant difference. Children who enjoy gymnastics, cheerleading, parkour, tricking or simply learning new skills need a trampoline that allows them to achieve height with less effort. A more responsive trampoline also helps reduce fatigue, allowing kids to play or train for longer while developing confidence and control.
Matching your children to the right trampoline doesn't just improve the bounce—it increases the likelihood they'll continue using it for years, spend more time outdoors and get better value from your investment.
Bigger isn't always better
One of the biggest misconceptions when buying a trampoline is that the largest or most expensive model will automatically provide the best bounce.
In reality, the bounce is determined by how well the trampoline's frame size, design, shape, mat and springs all work together for the weight, ability and technique of the jumper.
A trampoline designed for heavier teenagers may actually feel difficult for a 25kg child to bounce on, while a trampoline designed for younger children may feel too soft for older teenagers.
The goal isn't simply buying the biggest trampoline—it's buying the trampoline that best suits your family.
Why GeeTramp offers different spring options
We've specialised in rectangle trampolines for over 20 years and have one of Australia's largest trampoline display centres in Geelong, Victoria.
Thousands of children have tested our trampolines over that time. We've watched how they bounce, listened to their feedback (often delivered with complete honesty!) and continually refined our products based on what real families tell us.
Our testing doesn't stop there.
We also receive valuable feedback from gymnasts, cheerleaders, divers, parkour athletes, snowboarders, freestyle jumpers and active families who use their trampolines for everything from skill development to everyday backyard fun.
This ongoing testing has allowed us to continually improve our rectangle trampoline range and better match the bounce to different ages, weights and activities.
Today, every GeeTramp rectangle trampoline is available with one of two carefully selected spring systems.
Heavy Duty (HD) Springs – GeeTramp Force
Heavy Duty Springs are manufactured using thicker 3.4mm spring wire with larger coil diameters than the Standard Springs traditionally used on many trampolines.
Compared with the older Standard Springs previously used throughout the industry, HD Springs provide:
Greater spring strength
Improved rebound
Better support for High Bounce mats
Longer service life
A more responsive bounce for growing families
Because of these improvements, Standard Springs are no longer used throughout the GeeTramp rectangle trampoline range. Heavy Duty Springs are now the standard spring supplied with every GeeTramp Force trampoline.
Australian Galvanised Springs – GeeTramp Force PRO
Our GeeTramp Force PRO trampolines use premium Australian-made galvanised spring steel, manufactured entirely in Australia.
These springs offer several advantages:
More responsive for lighter children
Greater stretch and rebound
Effortless, consistent bounce
Excellent corrosion resistance
Outstanding long-term durability
While they cost significantly more to manufacture than imported springs, they deliver a noticeably different bounce—particularly for younger and lighter jumpers—and are an excellent choice for families wanting the very best performance. One of the most common comments we hear after customers try them is, "It feels like a silky, effortless bounce."
