Geelong Meetup 2019
The direct details about the proposed meetup on July 7th is at the bottom of the page. Please be sure to check with parents before notifying Julie if you can come or not. Limited to 20 places. Have 13 places available at time of posting.
The history of GeeTramp Meetups
Over the past few years, we have hosted some fun and memorable meetups with families traveling to Geelong from interstate.
Parents have been keen to do what they can to support their kids in the sport of gtramp. (The use of garden trampolines for creative, gymnastics, trampoline tricks of all sorts)
The kids have come together mostly already as friends or aware of each other from following one another on social media especially Instagram and YouTube.
We have had the best time hosting the events and have been active in supporting the gtramp community to be acknowledged as an emerging sport.
2018 Meetup
Last year’s meetups hung in the balance of insurance and if we could even find a way to host the event at all. We ended up doing a workaround locally and took all the kids after just one hour on our GeeTramps at our display and warehouse to the 2 local trampoline parks, this worked and all in all the weekend went well.
Later in the year, we co-hosted an event in Brisbane with Flipside Circus. Which was a fabulous day with circus tricks being taught and experienced while we had 6 GeeTramp trampolines up for use on the day. We operated fully under the insurance of Flipside Circus and we assembled and disassembled the trampolines that were owned by Cystic fibrosis. Andrew and I supervised the kids when on the trampolines in a supporting role with the flipside circus staff.
Insurance 2018
After the Brisbane event, our then insurer as we had known from early in 2018 was unable to renew their policy with us or other similar trampoline businesses in Australia.
Our new insurer most reluctantly took us on as a trampoline retailer, they attended our site to do a full audit of our display and warehouse to ensure we don’t fall under the trampoline park category and we are meeting our obligations to both visitors and the insurer. This was a first we have never had an insurance audit and were happy to know we passed with only a minor adjustment to be made which was installing a sign on the site.
2019 Meetups and events
This year we assumed we would be all good to go ahead and host gtramp meetup events in the same capacity as we did last year. So through a relationship with a local circus arts business and have been excited to be preparing for the event to be held 7th July.
However, once we sent the insurer our event proposal, things started to go pear-shaped.
1 – we still own the trampolines
2 – we will be assembling them and disassembling them
3 – we will be promoting the event
4 – we will be supervising kids at the event
5 – we will be managing attendee payments
6 – we will be promoting the event
Because of the above factors, we needed to get indemnity on the circus arts insurance and to get the correct wording, as the insurers don’t provide that we would need to have a lawyer do it for us.
At the end of the of all this it was clear we could only have an event with mini trampolines as that was all their insurance covered them for. To add insurance to their policy for full-sized trampoline it was going to cost $5000.
So clearly our meetup isn’t worth that!
Insurers Response 2019.
Unfortunately, the insurer will not cover any activities that are conducted on trampolines.
“….the policy will extend to cover mini tramps, but it will not cover any full size trampolines and activities conducted whilst using them.
Whilst this cover is possible to obtain, trampolines are rated a very high risk (thus why they are not covered under the facilities premiums), the premium to introduce trampoline activities would be a minimum $5,000 annual premium and we would need a few weeks to work on obtaining the cover with an alternative insurer (not the insurer that we currently use for your facility).
Happy to chat further if you need, sorry this isn’t the news you would have been expecting but insurer’s really don’t like trampolines as there have been many a claims resulting in large payouts…..”
New Proposal
So keen Gtramp, Gymnastics and Cheer community I want to still keep my word and offer you an opportunity to meet up in Geelong in 2019.
What Circus Arts Geelong has come back to us with a suggestion and offer to do Mini Tramp and tumbling class., This will not be freestyle jumping and tricking, muck around and have fun it will be formal training and upskilling by skilled coaches.
They have also identified that the community we have of fearless Gtrampers and Cheerleaders who are the best kids to train for teeterboard so are keen to also have kids who would like to see a demonstration and have a go and get some training in using a teeterboard.
These are teeterboard videos to watch.
