When each trampoline size is right

8ft Round Trampoline

A small round trampoline suited for a small garden space or courtyard. Not ideal for 2 kids to actively play on together. This is the trampoline to get that will fill the only available space you have, and the kids will be happy, to have a trampoline over no trampoline at all. If you have the space for a 10ft trampoline, then definitely go for it over the 8ft.

10ft Round Trampoline

A 10ft round trampoline in either GeeTramp or Vuly is a nice size trampoline for the small garden and suited to couple of small kids. Small kids can be active on this size, hop, jump and run around. Once kids are getting up to the age of flipping and such, they are looking for a little more space. But kids can be like “goldfish” and manage their tricks in this space if this is all the space that is available for a trampoline.

12ft Round Trampoline

Ideal family size trampoline. It is the go-to size for the average back yard and 2 kids. This is the size an adult is happy to bounce on alone or with a friend so is a great size if mums are looking for a bit of extra exercise too. If you have space for a 12ft trampoline it will be the size that will do your family of happy jumpers from toddlers, and right through their teens.

14ft Round Trampoline

14ft round trampoline, ideal for the larger family, 3 older kids who want to and do jump together, or a social family who is the drop-in house and always has the extra kids over. Be mindful you can have too big a trampoline. Toddlers can run around on this actively but once kids are around 8+ and getting into flipping typically they struggle to get adequate bounce; we see a common theme of families who have had a 14ft Trampoline when the kids were little downsize to a 12ft more than any other trampoline change.

A note on department store trampolines

Round trampolines were introduced as a budget conscience trampoline so the average families could have trampolines. They were made of lightweight and thin materials and really didn’t stand the test of time, the weather or older heavier kids.

Department store trampolines still really do fall into the “little kids” toy category. When to consider a rectangle trampoline?

• A rectangle trampoline is the original shape of the first trampolines introduced to consumers and what is still used today for gymnastics and Olympic competitions.
• With that mentioned round trampolines came onto the market because rectangles trampolines were typically outside the budget of many families.
• Rectangle trampoline have long straight side rails and corners and for that reason larger carton sizes than the neatly tessellating frame pieces of a round trampoline which are much cheaper to import and freight around.
• For the best bounce rectangle trampolines need to be made of bigger tubing and thicker steel than the round trampolines. It is because of the steel used they do have the reputation for lasting longer than a round trampoline.
• A rectangle trampoline will always give a better bounce and is the preferred shape for kids who are active in a range of sports – gymnastics, dance, cheer, calisthenics, parkour, free running, snowboarding etc.
• If you are keen on helping your kids to lose weight a rectangle trampoline is a shape that is easier to bounce and get height on for this reason kids will bounce on a rectangle for longer periods of time on their own than on the equivalent sized round trampoline.

Safety Note for round and rectangle trampoline

• Little kids tend to run around in circles at the edge of the trampoline and everyone is the winner, this natural activity is a little more dangerous on a rectangle where they run up and down the center rather than at the edge.
• A round trampoline has a very even bounce experience for all users. Where a rectangle trampoline you can get a double bounce going. Be mindful when there are three users on the mat together the smallest is the one more prone for a serious injury. Please make kids aware of this.

We are also aware of reality and that most families do allow more on at a time. Be aware as the supervisor you will need to revise the rules for what activities are taking place and consider the ages and energy levels of the kids involved.
